Background:
Melamine is an organic base and a trimer of cyanamide, with a 1,3,5-triazine skeleton. Melamine is also a metabolite of cyromazine, a pesticide. It is formed in the body of mammals that have ingested cyromazine. It has been reported that cyromazine can also be converted to melamine in plants.
Melamine combines with cyanuric acid and related compounds to form melamine cyanurate and related crystal structures, which have been implicated as contaminants or biomarkers in Chinese protein adulterations.
Melamine is described as “Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin. Chronic exposure may cause cancer or reproductive damage. Eye, skin and respiratory irritant”.
Use Principles:
Melamine ELISA Test Kit is an indirect competitive enzyme-labeled immunoassay. The melamine antigen is precoated on the wells. The precoated antigen compete the Melamine antibody (antibody solution) with Melamine in the sample, anti-Melamine antibody binds to the Melamine-HRP enzyme conjugate. Then pipet the substrate solutions to the wells to convert the color.
The color of unknown samples is compared to the color of the standards and the Melamine concentration of the samples is derived.
